Efficiency at Stake

December 5, 2021

Incumbents have traditionally focused on delivering excellence through efficiency only. But major disruptions across all fronts of business in 2020 left companies scrambling to adopt futuristic operational models. Whether it is through a pandemic or through a sudden shift in customer expectations, volatility exists, and only organizations following a modular arrangement can continuously meet these changing needs.

The Theory

According to a recent study by Gartner, a global logistics company recently shifted beyond its ecosystem and connected with retailers to multiply interaction points for customers and shipments by thousands. The study showed how organizations build resilience in the face of great disruptions: organizations who win the future are those who assemble and re-assemble their component parts at will, quickly retaining what works and shedding what does not, calling it an intelligent composable business.
Gartner predicts by 2023, organizations that embrace composability will outpace the competition by 80% in implementing new product features. (Gartner, 2021)

The idea of composable business operates on four basic principles; this type of thinking enables a business to survive, and even flourish, in times of great disruption:

  • Discovery that paves the way for high velocity innovation,
  • Modularity that enables greater agility,
  • Orchestration that strengthens leadership roles and
  • Autonomy that makes the business resilient (Gartner, 2020)
