SELISE TechTalk- the first of its kind
November 23, 2014
An eventful day powered by SELISE that kicked off with a search for the next coding rockstar followed by engaging keynote presentations from programming gurus.
While the whole country lay shrouded in darkness over a power disaster, a batch of 30 fresh graduate minds were still at it – launching a programming storm followed by an afternoon keynote session with more than 80 developers, both freelancers and employees from renowned companies. SELISE is proud to have fueled this storm in the form of TechTalk – the first of its kind to take place in Bangladesh.
These young programmers hurled questions after questions towards the organizers and the professional programmers who anchored the event, and it was a quite a pleasant bombardment of enthusiasm too. Despite the fact that the national grid was down, the SELISE generators had to put in quite a shift to keep the session alive till 18:00 in the day. Even as the sessions came to an end, the hosts could still be seen answering queries on the elevators, on their way out, and on personal demands.
The event took place on the first of November, as SELISE opened up its HQ in Dhaka for the cause. There were two parts to the day long event- the morning session conducted the high-velocity SELISE Super Talent Programme, and the evening session involved keynote presentations on state-of-the-art technologies by software professionals from around the country.
What is the the SELISE Super Talent Programme?
SELISE believes in knowledge dispersion and this is our way of preparing the young programmers for their future jobs. They are thrown challenges in coding and expected to come up with solutions. This is basically a recruitment program for the fresh CSE graduates in the form of a coding competition.
This programme is broken down into four competitive exams: two exams were on logical programming language, and the other two were written and oral respectively. The logical programming language kicked off with 30 students at 10:00 am in the morning.
The exams entailed four programming related questions, and they had three hours to come up with their solution. The questions turned more difficult after each stage.
After the break, SELISE kicked off its first ever TechTalk, where an audience of over 80 people was eager to learn from the very best in their field. The TechTalk was spearheaded by three professional programmers, who were armed with their wealth of experience and knowledge and ready for the intrigued audience. Software Engineer Mizanur Rahman discussed about cross-platform development with Angular JS while the SELISE CTO, Shah Ali Newaj, spoke on the trending scalability pattern CQRS (Command Query Responsibility Segregation). Rifat Nabi, one of the brilliant programmers behind the popular Avro Keyboard, enlightened the class with the programming language SCALA.
The event also presented a rare opportunity for visiting developers and other professionals to come together and build connections. A truly remarkable atmosphere, the whole Midas building bustled with excitement and spark throughout the day.
The SELISE Super Talent Programme’s prime objective is to help aspiring programmers and prepare them for their professional careers. The chosen talents who prove themselves through the programme get the chance to become a part of SELISE and learn and grow with us. The programme has a lifespan of three years, in which each individual can earn up to 24 lac taka (almost 312, 000 USD). Moreover, they have the liberty to drop out of the project any time they choose.
Even though this marked the first time SELISE hosted a TechTalk, the Super Talent Programme has been in motion since March of 2012. In what was its the fifth installment, through the unique recruitment programme SELISE have unearthed over 15 Super Talents in the course of three years.
They are known to Rockstar Trainees. Rightly so.
